Portugal is sent to the Rugby World Cup in 2023 by Samuel Marques

After a close 16-16 draw in the final match of the Final Qualification Tournament in Dubai, Os Lobos became the 20th team to earn a spot at Rugby World Cup 2023.

With a 16-16 draw against the USA in the final match of the Final Qualification Tournament, Portugal became the 20th team to qualify for the Rugby World Cup in 2023.

Due to their superior point differential, Os Lobos needed only a draw to advance to a second Rugby World Cup, which Samuel Marques secured with the final kick of the game at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai.

This means that Portugal will join Wales, Australia, Fiji, and Georgia in Pool C at the Rugby World Cup in 2023.

“It’s difficult to make sense of, it’s perhaps of the best inclination on the planet,” Portugal chief Tomás Appleton said. “This is incredible for the rugby community; we have been absent from the Rugby World Cup for some time, and we require a new generation to inspire the youngsters.

Earlier on Friday, Hong Kong defeated Kenya 22-18 and moved up to third place in the standings with a second-half comeback.

Portugal stun USA

The USA took the lead in Dubai after AJ MacGinty scored a penalty kick in the third minute that went through the uprights. The USA had only failed to qualify for one Rugby World Cup before, in 1995 in South Africa.

However, they soon lost winger Nate Augspurger to the penalty box, and Portugal responded by scoring the match’s first try.

Raffaele Storti, a winger, received a pass from Nuno Sousa Guedes wide on the right and cut back inside to take advantage of the space Augspurger had left and sprinted over the goal line. Os Lobos took a four-point lead thanks to Marques’ conversion.

Until Portugal center José Lima received a yellow card in the 21st minute when MacGinty converted the penalty, the score remained that way.

The Bristol Bears flyhalf missed a try from the tee that would have given his team the lead on the half-hour mark, which is unusual.

MacGinty rediscovered his reach on the stroke of half-time, be that as it may, answering a prior fruitful Marques punishment to make the score 10-9 in operating system Lobos’ approval at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Marques extended Portugal’s lead by four points, but he did so in between two missed kicks that would have increased their advantage.

Kapeli Pifeleti Jr. burrowed over from close range on the hour mark, making Os Lobos pay for their waste.

The try gave the USA its first lead since the eighth minute, which MacGinty converted routinely to make it 16-13. Additionally, Os Lobos sent prop Francisco Fernandes to the sin bin for an earlier offense, but he did not score while he was off the field.

However, Marques stepped up to provide Portugal with the necessary draw with the match’s final kick to advance to RWC 2023.

Hong Kong comeback seals third

Hong Kong overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Kenya 22-18 and claim third place, led by debutant Jak Lam’s try.

Even though neither team could qualify for the Rugby World Cup 2023 after losing their first two matches at The Sevens Stadium, the effort put forth did not change. To know more about Wales Vs Portugal Tickets click here.

The Simbas took the lead after Hong Kong winger Matthew Worley was sent to the bench and Kenya fly-half Geoffrey Ominde missed an initial penalty attempt.

The Hong Kong center broke through a gap in the defense to score the first try, but Ominde missed the conversion again.

As a result, Hong Kong, which was 11 places above Kenya in the World Rugby Men’s Rankings powered by Capgemini before kickoff, was able to score first in the 18th minute when number eight Luke van der Smit crossed and Gregor McNeish converted.

Ten minutes later, Worley thought he had scored a second Hong Kong try, but his effort was disallowed due to a foot in touch.

Kenya became the half-owner at that point. Minutes later, Ominde converted a well-worked try by Jacob Ojee and added a penalty to increase the Simbas’ lead to eight points.

The Simbas capitalized on a second Ominde penalty to take an 18-7 lead at halftime after Hong Kong was reduced to 14 players for the second time after fullback Nathan De Thierry was penalized.

However, Hong Kong started the second half strongly despite their numerical disadvantage, and McNeish converted Sean Taylor’s try to reduce their deficit to one point.

Kenya thought they had conceded a third try when they lost flyhalf Ominde in the 54th minute, but Worley’s attempt was again disallowed at the lineout for offside.

Before scrum-half Bryn Phillips became the third Hong Kong player to receive a yellow card, Darwin Mukidze missed a penalty that would have extended Kenya’s lead.

However, in his absence, Hong Kong scored when replacement hooker Lam pounced on a lineout drive to score his first international try less than four minutes after making his debut and earning his first cap.

Kenya had some late offensive possession, but a knock-on cost them as they drove toward the goal, ending the game and confirming Hong Kong’s victory.

Portugal qualify for Rugby World Cup 2023

After earning a 16-16 draw with the USA in the Final Qualification Tournament in Dubai, Portugal will advance to the Rugby World Cup in 2023.

Os Lobos were able to advance to the second Rugby World Cup thanks to the draw, which was sufficient for their superior point differential in the table. Additionally, Samuel Marques’ last-gasp kick earned it.

At the Rugby World Cup 2023, Portugal joins Wales, Australia, Fiji, and Georgia in Pool C.

The dream had vanished. The Portuguese team was outplayed by their Iberian rivals. Os Lobos (The Wolves) saw their ticket to the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France ripped up in front of a jubilant Madrid crowd.

Patrice Lagisquet, the head coach, felt compelled to apologize to his players following the incident. The former France wing popularly referred to as the “Bayonne Express,” felt he hadn’t given his players enough energy in the buildup with the ultimate prize at stake. Lagisquet felt completely battered by the sudden death of a dear friend the week before.

The one-time Les Bleus partner likewise had a head loaded with ‘what uncertainties’ and ‘if onlys’ about different games Portugal played in the Rugby Europe Title rivalry that served as World Cup spot deciders. They were only awarded four points rather than five for a Russian fixture that was abandoned. He agonized, but maybe it wouldn’t have come down to a shootout with Spain in their backyard if he had just considered the bigger picture and a bonus point here, a different effort there. Regarding the results, the coach says, “I felt guilty.”

However, as we are all aware, Spain’s World Cup qualifying team fell apart when it was discovered that they had fielded an ineligible player, Gavin van den Berg, against the Netherlands. Portugal received a second chance after Los Leones were promptly eliminated, with Romania taking their place in Pool B.

France, however, is now more sensitively resilient under Coach Fabien Galthie, but still with plenty of traditional attacking, although even a gifted squad would be hampered were star half-backs Antoine Dupont and Romain Ntamack to be hurt.

‘Not perfect

France’s year-ending 35-17 defeat of Japan was their 13th successive Test victory, a sequence including a 2022 Six Nations Grand Slam and fine wins this month over Australia and South Africa.

“It’s not perfect, we have to work more and continue to do what we did this Autumn,” said France No 8 Gregory Alldritt.

“(We must) keep our feet on the ground by not thinking we’re something we’re not.”

South Africa, without several first-select players for a match outside of the Autumn window, still ended the year with a complete 27-13 win over England, their well-beaten adversaries in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final in Japan, at Twickenham on Saturday.

Emerging wing Kurt-Lee Arendse scored the seventh try in as many Tests, with a gifted back division given a chance to shine by a characteristically strong Springbok pack.

“It is not that much of a difference but we are just seeing opportunities which we didn’t in the past,” said South Africa captain Siya Kolisi.

Ireland’s 13-10 win over Australia this month destined them to become the first team since England in 2002 to defeat the All Blacks, the Springboks, and the Wallabies in a calendar year. To know more about France Vs New Zealand Tickets click here.

England went on to win the 2003 Rugby World Cup but Ireland has yet to make a semi-final.

But an ‘ugly’ win over Australia, reached without veteran fly-half Jonathan Sexton, prompted Ireland coach Andy Farrell to say: “We found a way and that’s what good sides do when they’re not at their best.”

England, skippered by Farrell’s son, Owen, had a poor November, their only win coming against an outmuscled Japan.

They were beaten first-up by World Cup pool adversaries Argentina and were well behind New Zealand before, from 19 points down with 10 minutes left, snatching an unlikely 25-25 draw.

Yet if opposite Argentina results in France, they could walk a similar path to the final as they did Japan, where England beat Australia and New Zealand in the neighborhood and semi-finals correspondingly.

Jones’ ‘imperfect’ plan

England coach Eddie Jones, for whom 2019 was his third participation in a World Cup final, insisted after Saturday’s match: “I’ve got a plan for how England can win the World Cup, but it doesn’t go in a perfect line.”

As for New Zealand, their draw with England sealed a year where Coach Ian Foster almost lost his job following overthrows by Ireland and Argentina.

“We played some great rugby and in our mind, we should have walked away with a win and we didn’t get it in that last 10 (minutes),” said Foster, who earlier in November nearly oversaw the All Blacks’ first loss to Scotland.

Constancy remains an issue for Argentina, their 30-29 win over England followed by a 20-13 defeat by Wales.

Australia endured a brutal autumn timetable of five Tests in as many weeks,

Australia endured a brutal autumn timetable of five Tests in as many weeks, including a surprise loss to Italy, and a raft of injuries meant the Wallabies writhed to field a Matchday 23 against Wales.

Yet they still came from 34-13 down after 58 minutes to score 26 unanswered points for an extraordinary 39-34 win on Saturday.

“I guess we could have lost all five or won all five, that’s the sort of tour it’s been,” said Australia coach Dave Rennie.

For Wales, another Cardiff collapse came conventional after their shock 13-12 loss to Georgia and meant they had won just three of 12 Tests this year, with Coach Wayne Pivac facing an uncertain future.

The USMNT account sent an image of the group which only showed the Iranian flag manner its green, white and red color but without any symbol of the Islamic State. This has allegedly breached FIFA guidelines, as pierced out by Iran’s state-affiliated broadcasting Tasnim News Agency. The USMNT says the sign was to show “support for the women in Iran aggressive for basic human rights” and they added it was a one-time display and it will reinstate the symbol moving forward.

They wrote on Twitter, alongside a screenshot of the pertinent FIFA rule: “According to section 13 of #FIFA rules, any person who offends the self-respect or integrity of a country, a person or group of people … shall be authorized with a suspension lasting at least ten matches or an exact period, or any other appropriate punitive amount.”

Iran Football World Cup campaign has been played against the background of severe unrest and tensions in their home nation.

Upon the Islamic Republic’s appeal, Qatari authorities have been preventing Iranian fans from carrying the “Lion and Sun” flag – which used to be Iran’s national flag before the 1979 Islamic Rebellion – or the three-colored flag with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” slogan.

Team Melli fans at their opening two Football World Cup competitions could be heard jeering to drown out the sound of their national anthem, which couriers its desire for the Islamic Republic to live forever. One group of Iran fans have also shaped a flag in the stands which read: “Woman, Life, Freedom.” Hundreds of activists have died in Tehran and other cities following the death in morality police care of Mahsa Amini two months ago.

The 22-year-old woman died in police care having been arrested for not wearing her hijab properly. Qatar Football World Cup: US team distorts Iran flag ahead of football clash

Iran’s football body official says grievance will be filed to Fifa over ‘unethical and illegal’ omission

Iran’s football federation will file a criticism to Fifa against the US team for removing Iran’s symbol from the flag in an online post, the football body’s legal adviser said on Sunday.

The banner of the US football team’s Twitter account fleetingly displayed the flag of Iran, whom they are set to play against on Tuesday in a vital World Cup clash, with the red, white, and green strips but without the central symbol that reads “Allah”, a symbol related with the country’s 1979 revolution.

The same one-sided flag was used on official Twitter and Instagram posts published on 25 November. The Twitter banner reinstated Iran’s official flag on Sunday afternoon and the posts were detached after criticism was rising online.

Safia Allah Faghanpour, the legal consultant of the Iranian football federation, said the emblem omission was “unethical”, rendering Tasneem to the Iranian news agency.

Qatar World Cup

“Respecting a nation’s flag is an accepted international practice that all other nations must emulate. The activities conducted about the Iranian flag are unethical and against international law,” Faghanpour said.

It was not immediately clear on what basis the grievance will be lodged.

The semi-official agency Tasneem cited section 13 of Fifa’s punitive code which states that offense to “the dignity or integrity of a country” is disciplinary with a “suspension lasting at least 10 matches or a specific period, or any other suitable disciplinary measure”.

The typography of the “Allah” emblem in the current Iranian flag is designed to look like a sword, which signifies strength and patriotism. Some also believe the five parts of the emblem symbolize the five pillars of Islam and a tulip, a symbol usually used to recall those who died for Iran.

The symbol was added to the flag in 1980, swapping the Lion and Sun emblem used in the flag before the Islamic Revolution, and today invoked by antagonism groups and anti-government protesters.

Mind games

The US football federation, the USMNT, said in a declaration that it changed the flag for 24 hours to show “support for the women in Iran fighting for basic humanoid rights”, according to the Associated Press.

Iran has been engulfed in two-month-long complaints that were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in police custody after they are stationary her for allegedly wearing her headscarf “inappropriately”.

Iranian authorities have replied with heavy force. An estimated 300 people have been killed in the unrest so far. Iranian players have previously accused their opponents in the Football World Cup group of using the complaints to play mind games and put them under pressure ahead of matches. Before the opening competition against England, Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh accused British media of playing a ‘mental game’ by asking players to remark on the protests.

After a pre-match press session last week, Iran’s coach Carlos Queiroz challenged a BBC journalist over questions asked of Iranian players about the unrest back home.

He asked if it was fair to put political questions to football players of Inotn but no other countries.

“Why don’t you ask the other coaches? Why don’t you ask [England manager Gareth] Southgate: ‘What do you think about England, the United States, and [pulling out of] Afghanistan?” he said.

Iran is set to play the US on Tuesday in a conclusive winner-takes-all match that could see Team Melli reach the knockout stages of the Football World Cup for the first time in history.
