RUGBY WORLD CUP PEDIGREE

HONG KONG

Since the 1995 competition, Hong Kong has tried to qualify for a Rugby World Cup, but they have so far been unable to do so and secure a spot at the championship game.

However, it was a loss to Chinese Taipei in the RWC 2003 qualifying campaign that cost them dearly. In the early years, their growth was frequently halted by Japan, the dominant team in Asia.

In the repechage for the RWC 2015, Hong Kong’s interest was ended when they fell to Uruguay, and in the round-robin event for the RWC 2019, they failed, placing second-to-last in the four-team competition in Marseilles.

KENYA

Similar to Hong Kong, Kenya made an attempt to qualify for the RWC 1995, but losses to Zimbabwe and Namibia terminated their chances before a victory over the Arabian Gulf.

The Simbas have participated in the qualifying rounds for every Rugby World Cup since, but they have not yet advanced to the main competition.

After overcoming Namibia and putting themselves in an excellent position to qualify for the 2015 RWC, Kenya narrowly missed out on both a trip to England and a spot in the playoffs due to a loss to Zimbabwe.

Four years later, their final qualifying match loss to Namibia prevented them from directly qualifying for the 2019 RWC. Despite having done enough to qualify for the second round, they fell to Canada, Hong Kong, and Germany in all three of their games in Marseille.

PORTUGAL

Portugal has only only participated in one Rugby World Cup, which took place in France in 2007.

Then, Os Lobos waited until the very last second to defeat Uruguay on the road to qualifying.

Os Lobos lost to their South American opponents 18-12 in the return match in Montevideo, but as a result of their 12-5 triumph over Los Teros in the first leg in Lisbon, they were able to come out on top 24-23.

The outcome atoned for Portugal’s severe setback to Uruguay in the Repechage matchup in 1999.

Portugal earned a spot in Pool C for the actual event, where they will play New Zealand, Scotland, Italy, and Romania.

In front of a sizable Portuguese crowd in St. Etienne, Portugal lost against Scotland 56-10 to start their tournament, with winger Pedro Cabral scoring their first-ever Rugby World Cup try.

A less motivated team might have fallen apart after losing 108-13 to New Zealand in their second match, but Os Lobos finished the competition strongly with a respectable 31-5 loss to Italy and then in a tight game against Romania, the Oaks prevailed 14-10 but only after scoring two converted tries in the fourth quarter.

Portugal achieved their goal of scoring at least one try in every game by finishing their first Rugby World Cup campaign beaten in every game but unbeaten.

USA

With the exception of RWC 1995, the USA has played in every tournament, making them the team with the most Rugby World Cup experience entering the Final Qualification Tournament.

On May 24, 1987, at Ballymore in Brisbane, Australia, they made their Rugby World Cup debut by defeating Japan 21-18 after a late comeback.

They then suffered losses to Australia and England, and it took them 16 years to record their second tournament victory.

That triumph came in 2003 when the competition returned to Australia after winless pool phase exits at RWC 1991 and RWC 1999. At Central Coast Stadium, the USA ran in five tries to defeat Japan once more, winning 39-26.

Since that night in Gosford, the USA has only triumphed in one Rugby World Cup match, a 13-6 victory over Russia at RWC 2011, which was also played in the southern hemisphere, with Mike Petri scoring the only try of the game.

On the grandest stage, the USA has thus far struggled to go past the quarterfinals, but on their most recent Rugby World Cup appearance, they came close to winning the event for the fourth time.

The Eagles led Tonga 12-7 at halftime of their final Pool C encounter of the 2019 RWC thanks to two tries from Mike Te’o.

Tonga, on the other hand, outscored the USA three tries to one in the second half to win 31-19 and send the USA’s opponents home after just one win in four Rugby World Cup appearances.

WORLD RANKINGS SINCE LAST RUGBY WORLD CUP

HONG KONG

Even though they have only participated in four tests since Japan in 2019, Hong Kong has managed to move up two spots in the World Rugby Men’s Rankings powered by Capgemini.

Hong Kong was ranked in 24th place with 59.65 points back in November 2019, but they are now 22nd with two positions and 1.38 points higher (61.03 points).

If Hong Kong defeats Portugal in their opening match at the Final Qualification Tournament, they will be within reach of a spot in the top 20 in the world.

KENYA

Since the last Rugby World Cup, Kenya has only played seven tests, winning four of them, but they have dropped one spot in the standings.

At the beginning of November 2019, the Simbas were placed 32nd with 52.55 points. Three years later, they are now ranked 33rd with 52.06.

If Kenya wins their first match against the United States this weekend, they could move up as many as five spots.

PORTUGAL

It is hardly surprising that Os Lobos have improved in the rankings during the current Rugby World Cup cycle, which is seen as a moment of triumph for Portugal.

Even though moving up one spot to 20th may not seem like much of an acceleration, the rating score’s increase from 61.34 to 65.08 tells you everything you need to know about the direction they are moving in.

Regarding the upcoming weekend, regardless of how the Eagles perform in their first game against lower-ranked Kenya, Portugal will overtake the USA in 19th if they defeat Hong Kong.

USA

The USA has been through a transition during the last three years, which is reflected by the team’s minor decline in the rankings.

The Eagles were rated 17th with 68.10 points after the conclusion of RWC 2019, however they have since dropped two spots to 19th and almost three rating points, entering the Final Qualification Tournament with a score of 65.17.

As they cannot improve their score against Kenya due to the 13.11 point discrepancy between the two countries, USA may fall further in the rankings this weekend.

FORM GUIDE

HONG KONG

Hong Kong has very limited test rugby history entering the Final Qualification Tournament.

Hong Kong has only played on the field four times since the last Rugby World Cup ended, winning two and losing two of those games.

Hong Kong gained some new experiences during a European tour at the end of 2019 when they played Belgium and Spain away for the first time.

The team had a 36-17 victory in Brussels before losing to Los Leones 29-7, but things seemed to be going well for them until COVID-19 struck.

Because to travel limitations, Hong Kong’s 15s test rugby was suspended for two and a half years. Then, due to the financial effects of the global pandemic, the program’s status was changed from a full-time to a part-time one.

However, Hong Kong made a triumphant return, defeating Korea 23-21 in Incheon thanks to a last-second penalty kick. As a result, Hong Kong was guaranteed a spot in the Asia-Pacific Qualifier and the opportunity to win a direct flight to France in 2023.

The ‘Ikale Tahi won the match against Tonga 44–22 on neutral Australian soil, as most observers had predicted they would.

However, Hong Kong’s performance, particularly in the match’s closing moments, gives them reason for confidence and something to work on going into the Final Qualification Tournament for a team that had so little time to prepare behind them under a new head coach.

KENYA

Kenya enters the Final Qualification Tournament in decent shape, having only lost twice in their previous six games, both times to Namibia.

The Simbas did not play on the field between September 2019 and July 2021 as a result of the pandemic’s effects.

When Kenya did return to the field to begin their RWC 2023 qualifying campaign, Senegal humiliated them 20-19, and Kenya gave up the game-winning converted try in the waning seconds.

Kenya bounced back to defeat Zambia 45-8 and restart their qualification campaign. They finished the year with a training camp in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

While there, the Simbas played Namibia and Brazil. In their first encounter, although they were ahead 24-19 at the half against their African opponents, they fell down 60-24 as their opponents scored seven tries after the break.

Once more, the Simbas bounced back, and six days later, they scored five tries to defeat Brazil 36-30 at Markötter Stadium in a 66-point thriller.

Kenya defeated Algeria and Uganda in July’s Rugby Africa Cup 2022 in France to advance to a winner-take-all match against Namibia. However, a 36-0 loss in Aix-en-Provence put an end to the Simbas’ aspirations of securing straight qualification to RWC 2023.

PORTUGAL

Portugal qualified for Dubai by placing third overall in the Rugby Europe Championship standings for 2021 and 202.

Os Lobos’ 25-25 draw with Georgia in Tbilisi marked the beginning of the second half of the qualification campaign’s high point; nonetheless, results, though not performances, declined as the year went on.

Their chances for automatic qualification were dashed after a key 37-27 loss to Romania in Bucharest, but a match against the struggling Netherlands got them back on track as Os Lobos won 59-3.

Then came the stretch of four losses leading up to the Final Qualification Tournament, though three of them were against teams who were rated higher.

Portugal’s Rugby Europe Championship campaign came to a disappointing conclusion after Spain defeated them 33-28 in Madrid.

The Italian team visited Portugal after their Six Nations triumph over Wales, and although coming out on the losing end of the scoreboard this time (38–31), Portugal lost.

Following their comeback from a halftime disadvantage, the South Americans fell to an Argentina XV 52-35.

Additionally, Portugal forced their opponents Georgia work hard in their most recent match in Kutaisi in July to win 23-14.

USA

The USA would have advanced to the RWC 2023 and would have been preparing for matches against England, Japan, Argentina, and Samoa in Pool D had it not been for Santiago Videla’s last-second penalty in Glendale.

They had won the first leg of their Americas 2 play-off against Chile 22-21 in Santiago, and they appeared to have done all the hard work because they were up going into the final 10 minutes of the second.

Sport, however, involves razor-thin margins, and the USA’s performance since the RWC 2019 has been at best patchy.

When the squad resumed play in July 2021, they suffered crushing losses to England and Ireland but kept their hopes of winning a trip to France alive with a 59-50 aggregate victory over longtime rivals Canada.

Victory enabled a two-leg Americas 1 play-off against Uruguay. However, after winning 19-16 at home, Uruguay lost 34-15 in Montevideo, dropping the tie 50-34 overall.

After losing to the All Blacks 104-14 in Washington, Eagles supporters had reason for optimism after Houston’s 26-21 victory over the French Barbarians.

That was put out at Infinity Park by a kick from Videla, and the USA now travels to Dubai having won only three of their nine tests since Japan.

Football World Cup excitement comes to Ottawa ahead of Canada’s first match

Football World Cup fever has hit the capital as fans fill local pubs to watch their favorite team play football.

I’ve been watching this game for over thirty years currently and it is the first time I have ever been able to have two teams in the Football World Cup. It is a remarkable thing to see Canada in here, says Duff. This is a lifestyle for a batch of us and we by no means would have dreamt we would have our women as world Olympic champions and our men going to Qatar in the same almanac year. Football is alive and well here in Ottawa and we could not be happier.

The last time Canada had a berth the Football World Cup, it was 1986, 13th years before Duff’s friend and fellow football fan, Joseph Huneault was born.

I am in the same boat as a lot of people where I have always had to pick another team and, currently that Canada is here, I have more than one occasion, more than one reason to watch the game and it is fantastic, says Huneault. My expectations are very modest for us and if we score a goal we have done better than we had last time and that is all I am hopeful for.

Duff is president of Capital City Supporters Group

Duff is president of Capital City Supporters Group, which rally and connect other football fans to support Atlético Ottawa football club. He is also the Ottawa envoy for The Voyageurs, a country-wide soccer group, which has teamed up with The Glebe Central Pub to headquarter viewing party.

It is crazy to see our country back on the world stage for soccer, says Glebe middle Pub general manager, David Hania. I know our fans are really eager about this and I think that is really going to help the sport grow and also help bring soccer communities together.

Together Duff and Hania wait for the Bank Street tavern to be busy on Wednesday, when Canada takes on Belgium in its first match. We will cheer like we are in the stands for 90 minutes straight! It is going to be standing room only. It is going to be insane and win, lose or draw, this is about celebrating Canada at the game, says Duff. We are modest in our prospect [of Canada winning] but our eagerness for Canada being at the Football World Cup is triumphant, so come and join us because it is going to be stunning.

Canada ready to surprise rivals, says midfielder Osorio

CANADA aim to shock their opponents when they make their first look at the Football World Cup finals in 36 years, midfielder Jonathan Osorio said following a training session.Canada resolve face second-ranked Belgium, an ageing but motionless impressive team, tomorrow in their first Football World Cup match since 1986. Their other Group F opponent is on 2018 Football World Cup finalists Croatia and Morocco, who were winning in African qualifying.

We desire to show that we are a football nation, that we can vie with the best in the world, said Osorio, who plays for Toronto FC in the MLS.

We want to shock people because I think people still see us as underdogs. It is the Football World Cup; they ought to just be happy to be here’.

To compete against Belgium, Osorio said Canada would need to be deliberately sound, play as a unit and decide the right time to apply pressure against players similar to the stellar Kevin De Bruyne.

They have players that can hurt you with a creep of space, Osorio said.

Belgium is expected to be without their record goalscorer Romelu Lukaku, who trained separately from the squad on Sunday as he is struggling with a constrain injury.

Canada, the first Concacaf country to book a mark in the 2022 Finals

.Canada, the first Concacaf country to book a mark in the 2022 Finals, have appeared at the Finals once before, in 1986, when they not working out at the group stage with losses to France, Hungary and the Soviet Union and unsuccessful to score a goal. As players, we just prepare for whoever we stand conflicting to,” Osorio said of Lukaku’s absence

Jonathan David, the country’s second-best goalscorer throughout the qualifying campaign, said he would keep in mind the view of becoming the first Canadian man to score at the Football World Cup.

Everyone has this little consideration they want to score the first goal because it is going to be history, the Lille onward said.

Belgium vs. Canada: Prediction and Preview

Canada will go into their Football World Cup opener against Belgium with “belief, not hope”, according to midfielder Jonathan Osorio.

The North Americans defied prospect to top the final group of CONCACAF qualifying – ahead of the United States and Mexico – and earn an automatic qualifying put at Qatar 2022, and Osorio is sure of creating more surprises.

FIFA World Cup 2022 fans can buy Belgium Vs Canada Tickets from our website.

A clash with a Belgium side feature the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois is a initiation of fire in their first Football World Cup appearance in 36 years other than Osorio is ready to defy expectations in the Group F fixture at Al Rayyan Stadium.

He tells the Vancouver Sun: We do not hope any more, we believe. We’re very sure in ourselves. We want to demonstrate that we are a football nation that we can compete with the best in the world.

We want to surprise people, as I think people still see us as underdog; Canada and the Football World Cup, they should just be happy to be here. Other than that is not our mentality. We consider within our group, with the quality that we have and our brotherhood we can go as far as we desire to go.

Canada’s England-born coach John Herdman, who might be without star full-back Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich due to a hamstring strain, was also in bullish mood, adding: “I believe, internally, Canada is starting to expect things from us.

If you go to France, Germany, Italy, England, Brazil, Argentina they will ask ‘who’s Canada?’ But I think internally, as a country, we have started to believe things are likely, and it’s just the same mentality – one game at a time.

Belgium’s build-up has bounded the fitness of striker Romelu Lukaku

Much of Belgium’s build-up has bounded the fitness of striker Romelu Lukaku who is put to miss the first two games in Qatar after suffering a reappearance of a hamstring strain.

Former Belgium captain Vincent Kompany, now superior of Burnley in the English Championship, understands why Roberto Martinez opted to take a risk on the fitness of the Inter man. Kompany missed the entire group stage at the 2018 Football World Cup and only returned for the knockout stage as the Red Devils finished third.

He told Het Nieuwsblad: I did not play in the group stage since I had injured my hamstrings in a friendly match in preparation for the Football World Cup.

Going along injured looks strange throughout the group stage, but once you’re further into the tournament, you need players who make the dissimilarity and can help win matches. Even if Lukaku can only play in one game against those bigger teams, his attendance makes sense. I understand the choice. Match winners are everything in this competition.

Have ticketing app issues been resolved?

FIFA made an announcement yesterday saying it was attempting to fix tagging issues on its devoted application.

Al Jazeera’s Paul Rhys reported that FIFA had to rely on emailing fans with the required QR codes as a result of the issues, which slowed down crowds of fans attempting to enter stadiums during the three matches that were held on Monday.

In addition, Kashef anticipates a crushing victory when France and Australia clash later tonight at Al Janoub Stadium at 10 p.m. (19 GMT).

In the meantime, our bot gives Mexico an advantage over Poland and Denmark an advantage over Tunisia with a 28% chance of a draw.

Saudi fans arrive in Qatar for Argentina match

Except for, of course, the host nation, Saudi Arabian fans have the shortest commutes of any nation participating in this year’s tournament.

The organizers have set up a park-and-ride bus service at the Saudi border for the only competitor or nation that shares a land border with Qatar. At Lusail Stadium, the team will take on Argentina at 12:00 p.m. (GMT +10:00).

During the tournament, Saudi Arabia is anticipated to have one of the highest fan attendance rates.Additionally, this presence reflects the region’s shifting political climate. The crisis that saw Qatar’s neighbors blockade it beginning in June 2017 came to an end just last year, when the two countries restored their relations.

Amid crisis, Argentina hopes for glory

During the tournament this year, Argentina is widely regarded as a formidable opponent. As the nation struggles with prolonged economic uncertainty, the team has assumed an enormous amount of significance at home.

“I hope with all my heart that we win,” Marina Leon, who owns a family-run bar in Buenos Aires, told Al Jazeera. “To give people a little bit of joy. People have really been struggling because of the economic situation we’re in.”

Argentina, led by captain and superstar Lionel Messi, will take Saudi Arabia on in their first match on Tuesday.

‘Just simple football boys’

As anti-government protests continue in the country, the coach of Iran does not like the political pressure that some fans are putting on his team.

“To those who come to disturb the team with the issues that are not only about the football opinions, they’re not welcome because our boys, they’re just simple football boys,” coach Carlos Queiroz, a Portuguese national, told a news conference after the match.

“Let the kids play the game. Because this is what they’re looking for. They wanted to represent the country, to represent the people, as any other national team that are here. And all the national teams, there are issues at home.”

What happened yesterday?

In the midst of ongoing protests at home, Iran players remained silent during the national anthem.

In the meantime, England won 6-2 against Iran, Senegal lost 2-0 to the Netherlands, and the USA vs. Wales match ended 1-1.

After defeating Croatia in the World Cup final in 2018, Didier Deschamps’ team hopes to become the first team since Brazil in 1958 and 1962 to win the tournament twice.Les Bleus begin their defense against Australia, while Denmark plays Tunisia in the other Group D opener.

Day three begins with Argentina and Lionel Messi’s World Cup bid as they face Saudi Arabia in their Group C opener, followed by Mexico’s matchup with Poland in the same group.

Team news

As Argentina prepares to face Saudi Arabia, star Lionel Messi has denied reports of a pre-tournament injury.

The PSG star has been seen in recent training with padding on his right ankle, but Messi says he doesn’t have anything on him for the Group C opener.

“No issues whatsoever,” said Messi, who was pictured at practice with extra padding on the inside of his right ankle.

“I heard there were rumors of having to miss part of training or be away from the team because of a blow, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary.”

Prior to their match against Argentina, Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard is unconcerned about the fact that two of the team’s goalkeepers have not seen much action this season.

Renard did not say who will be the Green Falcons’ starting goalkeeper, but Muhammad Al-Owais has played 42 times for the national team, while Muhammad Al-Yami has only played seven times.

“The goalkeeper who will play tomorrow’s match has played 17 World Cup qualifiers so there is absolutely no problem,” the Frenchman told a news conference on Monday. The third goalkeeper in the squad, Nawaf Al-Aqidi, is still waiting for his debut with the national team.

Renard also stood by his decision to exclude seasoned custodian Abdullah Al-Mayouf, who said he would retire in 2019 before reversing his decision and saying he was available for selection.

Playmaker Christian Eriksen, who suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener in Copenhagen last year but has since fully recovered, will win his own World Cup opener against Tunisia.

“We are all happy and thankful that Christian is here after what happened,” Danish captain Simon Kjaer said.

“As a football player, probably one of the best I’m ever seen in terms of quality and love of the game. Every minute he plays, it’s only a plus for Denmark.”

Anis Ben Slimane at Brondby and Issam Jebali at Odense are Tunisia’s two Danish league players. The latter claims that he has not been able to provide any special insight into Tuesday’s opponents because the Tunisian technical team has been meticulous in their planning.

“We have a great technical staff and they have prepared well for the game,” Jebali said. “We know the Danish set-up, how they play and even how they think. We have a very good chance, we are a good squad. We are strong, we trust each other and have a good team spirit.”

Prior to Mexico’s opener against Poland, the fitness of forward Raul Jimenez remains a concern.

Ireland Rugby World Cup Player flanker Josh van der Flier was topped the world’s best male rugby player at the World Rugby Awards in Monaco on Sunday. Ireland flanker Josh van der Flier was capped as the world’s best male rugby player at the World Rugby Awards in Monaco on Sunday. Three Irish players now have won the prize, including legendary hooker Keith Wood and fellow 2022 candidate Johnny Sexton.

French captain Antoine Dupont was looking to become just the third player to win the award in successive years, but the star halfback was unsuccessful. All Blacks greats Richie McCaw and Beauden Barrett are the only two players in past to accomplish that feat. The other 2022 nominee was South Africa’s Lukhanyo Am, who only played a trickle of test competitions this year.

Ireland Rugby World Cup

Ireland over its international season with a thrilling 13-10 win over Australia in Dublin – but van der Flier’s influence just shows how good he is. The Irish enforcer made an astounding 24 tackles against the Wallabies, as the 29-year-old off what was his best year in green.

“I’ve been incredibly privileged to have great teammates and that have really pushed me on, as well as my wife and my family secondary me a huge amount,” van der Flier said after winning the award. “Especially from teammates, I’m lucky to have some very top-quality players, particularly in my position, both in Ireland and in Leinster.

“I’ve always felt I’ve needed to be playing at my best the whole time, or I wouldn’t be playing, so that’s certainly driven me on.”

Van der Flier played a key part in Ireland’s series

Van der Flier played a key part in Ireland’s series win over the All Blacks earlier this year – their first in New Zealand. The flanker scored Ireland’s first try in the determining test in Wellington, and he also made 23 tackles throughout the 32-22 win.

When asked to locate a highlight from the year that was, van der Flier spoke about the win over the All Blacks – before quickly backpedaling.

“It’s been great,” he said. “Any of the games we’ve won with the team, I think clearly to win over in New Zealand would be right up there in footings of rugby. My wife’s sitting there staring at me, so I’d have to say I got married in August so that perhaps has to be up the top.”

Ireland has never made it past the rounds at a Rugby World Cup, but the team is under more pressure than ever before to develop to the semis, and beyond, at next year’s competition. Van der Flier trusts his side, which is ranked No. 1 in the world, is “where every team wants to be” going into a World Cup year. To know more about Ireland Vs Scotland Tickets click here.

“It’s where every team wants to be,” Van der Flier said. “You don’t have that underdog status coming into games, but it’s where we want to be. It’s kind of the goal we’ve set for ourselves – performing at our best. We feel if we can do that, then we should be hopefully right up the top. Certainly, we’re very motivated for the next year ahead. It’ll be an exciting one.”

Ireland’s Chances of Winning the Rugby World Cup in 2023

If you’re Irish, I bet you are rational that the results are previously in for the Rugby World Cup 2023, given the form of the Irish in 2022.

Only Les Blues could tire the Irish in the 2022 Six Nations which saw the Irish take second place. The 2022 Summer Internationals saw the Irish go depressed to the Maori All Blacks in their warm-up game 32-17. This was a stripping result for the Irish, who went down in the next match to the All Blacks 42 – 19. The Irish came back with revenge, thrashing the Maori All Blacks in a reply and then going on to two wins against the All Blacks to win their series two to one.

Currently, Ireland is in first place concerning the world rankings. This must be a clear indicator of the option that Ireland can win the Rugby World Cup 2023.

 Ireland’s Assets

Johnny Sexton is Ireland’s talisman, and with him, they achieve extraordinary things; without him, they seem to fall apart. At 37, he is no spring chicken, and he is very prone to wounds. Can they keep him fit for the World Cup?

In recent internet polls, Ireland’s Coach, Andy Farrell has been chosen as the number-one coach in world rugby. With the best squad in the world, the best coach, and the luck of the Irish with their talisman, confidently this Rugby World Cup is a shoo-in for Ireland.

The pundits are saying then. They have France as 5/2 favorites, given their form and that the fact they are hosting the World Cup in France. New Zealand is the second favorite at 3/1, with England, South Africa, and Ireland all equal at 5/1.

Let me play devil’s advocate. Three things will affect Ireland’s winning the world cup:

  1. Underwhelming history in the rivalry.
  2. Psyche of the Irish.
  3. Getting depth through inexpert players.

Their past shows that Ireland in past World Cups has at best got to the quarter-final phases seven times out of nine attempts (1987, 1991, 1995, 2003, 2011, 2015, and 2019). In this World Cup, it will be vitally significant to come top of pool B if they are to progress and win the world cup. In the opening match, they play present World Cup holders, South Africa. If they come second in pool B, they will face France, and I trust that would be game-over for Ireland.

Pool B

  1. Ireland
  2. South Africa
  3. Scotland
  4. Romania

Ireland’s Liabilities

Ireland has the players, the coach, and the ranking; so what is it that stops them from charming the Rugby World Cup? There could be somewhat wrong with Ireland’s psychological approach to World Cup tournaments if they are always departing stage right. You could argue that there is somewhat deeply embedded in the culture of Irish rugby that is preventing Ireland from execution at their best on the wolfram d’s most significant stage. Freud once stated ‘This is one race of persons for whom psychoanalysis is of no use whatsoever.’ Perhaps Freud imagined this was due to the Irish having too much arrogance to be introspective, but whatever the reason, it is somewhat what is holding back the team, given that today’s rugby is about analysis, analysis, and analysis. Numerous coaches have tried to present more of a psychological constituent to their game, but all have failed to date. The Irish seem to be a mass of contradictions, impervious to the rational thought processes that might determine them.

RWC 2023

You could also look at Johnny Sexton as a liability. While he is surely a strength to the team when he can play, should he get hurt, the Irish may find themselves in hot water. They seem to lack depth for his location, so if he goes, the luck of the Irish may go too.

Ireland is all about charming in the short term, which has so far been a recipe for success. This attitude, however, has motionless new blood coming through the ranks. They need to start encouraging new talent who can take over from the old protector. This would mean taking a hit in the short term, a few losses in friendly rivalries being inevitable, but then this would seem a relatively small price to pay to save their upcoming. It is not going to happen though. Ireland does not trust they are broken so they are not going to fix it.

Could Ireland win the 2023 Rugby World Cup? Of course, it is likely, but I believe they are too rooted in their ways to do what is vital to secure the Webb Ellis trophy. It would be great for the Rugby World Cup Betting fans to timepiece the men in green grab the final glory, but I think just like the odds over at the beginning Ireland. i.e. that the likes of France or South Africa are more likely to come away from the World Cup with beams on their expressions.

Belgium vs Canada: Prediction and Preview in Football World Cup

We preview the Football World Cup 2022 match between Belgium and Canada, counting our pre-match prediction for Group F’s second game.

Preview

Canada will go into their World Cup opener against Belgium with “belief, not confidence”, according to midfielder Jonathan Osorio. The North Americans defied prospects to top the final group of CONCACAF qualifying – ahead of the United States and Mexico – and earn an involuntary qualifying place at Qatar 2022, and Osorio is confident of making more surprises.

A clash with a Belgium side containing the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, and Thibaut Courtois is an initiation of fire in their first World Cup appearance in 36 years but Osorio is prepared to defy expectations in the Group F feature at Al Rayyan Stadium. He told the Vancouver Sun: “We don’t hope anymore, we trust. We’re very confident in ourselves. We want to show that we are a football nation and that we can contest with the best in the world.

“We want to astonish people because I think people still see us as losers; Canada and the World Cup, they should just be content to be here.

Belgium vs Canada

“But that’s not our attitude. We’re here to compete, to compete at a high level. We believe within our group, with the quality that we have and our brotherhood we can go as far as we want to go.”

Canada’s England-born coach John Herdman, who could be without star full-back Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich due to a constrain strain, was also in a bullish mood, adding: “I think, internally, Canada is starting to expect things from us.

“If you go to France, Germany, Italy, England, Brazil, Argentina they’ll ask ‘who’s Canada?’ But I think internally, as a country, we’ve started to believe things are possible, and it’s just the same mentality – one game at a time.”

Football World Cup

Much of Belgium’s build-up has enclosed the fitness of striker Romelu Lukaku who is set to miss the first two games in Qatar after suffering a reappearance of a constrain strain. Former Belgium captain Vincent Kompany, now boss of Burnley in the English Championship, comprehends why Roberto Martinez opted to take a gamble on the fitness of the Inter man.

Kompany missed the entire group stage at the 2018 Football World Cup and only repaid for the knockout phase as the Red Devils over third. He told Het Nieuwsblad: “I didn’t play in the group stage because I had injured my constraints in a friendly match in groundwork for the World Cup.

“Going along injured looks strange during the group stage, but once you’re further into the contest, you need players who make the change and can help win matches.

“Even if Lukaku can only play in one game against those bigger teams, his presence makes sense. I understand the decision. Match winners are everything in this competition.”

Players to Watch

Belgium Football World Cup: Kevin De Bruyne

The Manchester City midfield maestro is the man Canada must try to keep quiet.

He has 155 goal participation in just 224 Premier League appearances and a range of passing that can torment any defense. He will miss Lukaku’s physical attendance – as both a target and a creator of space – but De Bruyne still possesses the weapons to make a change.

Canada Football World Cup: Jonathan David

David may play a little further forward than De Bruyne but his figures are similar. In 15 games in Ligue 1 for Lille this season, the 22-year-old has donated nine goals and three assists. Destined to join one of Europe’s big guns at the end of the season, David will hope to use the Qatar Football World Cup as a catalyst

Prediction

It is unbearable to look past Belgium, despite the obvious sureness Canada gleaned from their imposing succeeding campaign. Opta’s predictor model gives Belgium a 62.2 percent chance of opening with a win, with Canada’s hopes rated at just 17.4 percent.

If De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Dries Mertens and Co. fined their range then it could be a much extended night for Canada.

John Herdman’s side couldn’t have asked for a more problematic start, facing world No.2 and 2018 semi-finalists Belgium at Al Rayyan Stadium. But despite their loser status and lack of experience at this stage Les Rouges are surely equipped to pull off a couple of shocks in Qatar.

Here’s the XI Herdman may display as the Can MNT make past for their nation:

Qatar Football World Cup

GK: Milan Borjan – Herdman optional Borjan could miss this match with an abdominal issue but is a head coach known for pre-match mind games. Chances are the veteran stopper is fine; if he is, Canada will rely on his knowledge.

CB: Alistair Johnston – The versatile defender has been outstanding in MLS over the past few years with Nashville SC and, now, CF Montreal. Expect him to push forward down the right flank when Canada gets the accidental to counter.

CB: Steven Vitoria –

The 35-year-old center-back has spent almost a period playing top-flight football in Poland and Portugal and will be charged with holding the Canadian backline composed.

CB: Kamal Miller – After going under the radar for a good while, Miller is now widely recognized as one of the best defenders in MLS. He’ll also carry a risk at the other end from set-pieces.

RWB: Tajon Buchanan – Has adjusted nicely to life in Europe with Genk after contravention through with the New England Revolution. An attacker by trade, Buchanan has more lately been fielded as a wing-back. His knowledge of Belgian football could be significant.

CM: Stephen Eustaquio – Like Borjan, Eustaquio is another doubt. However, he skilled normally at the weekend so, once again, Herdman may just be keeping Roberto Martinez guessing. If Eustaqiuo is obtainable, the FC Porto man will offer vital quality and equanimity on the ball through the middle.

CM: Atiba Hutchinson –

No Canadian merits this Qatar Football World Cup appearance more than Atiba Hutchinson, who stands on 98 caps for his country’s title in the tournament. The 39-year-old is yet to slow down despite his age and will offer a mixture of quality, knowledge, and solidity in midfield.

LWB: Sam Adekugbe – Adekugbe has flourished in Turkish football with Hatayspor over the last couple of years, fully solidifying his spot at left wing-back. Like Buchanan on the opposite side, he’ll be expected to offer an extra body when Canada breaks.

RW: Alphonso Davies – So much rests on the obtainability of Alphonso Davies for Canada. The Bayern Munich star is back in exercise but still isn’t 100%. However, the player himself recently stated his confidence that he’ll start. If he does, he’ll revert to his natural aggressive role rather than the left-back spot he occupies for Bayern. Speed, skill, and end creation. Davies can extremely hurt Belgium.

ST: Cyle Larin – Some are contented with Larin being dropped to the bench after struggling to get going with Genk following his move from Besiktas. However, the fact remains he’s Canada’s record goalscorer, so he’ll shoulder a lot of attacking answerability in Qatar.

LW: Jonathan David – Thankfully for Larin, he has thoughtful help from Jonathan David, who is second on the list of Canadian goalscorers and living his best life with Ligue 1 giants Lille. Expect plenty of fluid crusade between this front three, who will try to distort the Belgian defense and create room for their wing-backs to get up in sustenance.
