The Itchen College student, who started running at Holterworth High and is often seen training at Romsey, finished eighth in the final. Annie also won the European Under-18 Championship and placed fifth at the World Tour in Boston earlier this year. The athlete is ranked third in the world in her age group with a personal best time of 4 minutes 19 seconds. The rising star said: It’s still a bit surreal. I don’t think I had time to realize it because everything happened so fast.

“I was incredibly pleased with my performance on my debut at the UK Championship. I did not expect that I would qualify, and then I got to the final. Next, I hope to lower my personal bests by 800m, 3000m and 1500m on the track, and I am aiming to qualify for the European Championships or the Commonwealth Youth Games in August.”

The athlete, who works for the Winchester Athletics Club, hopes to go to university in America next year and is set to compete in the 2028 Olympics. It was her second race after her third in the Oceania Cup Triathlon in Taupo and a significant chance to earn ranking points after a six-week break in New Zealand.

Not impressed with the outcome
