It is understood, however, that no such request has been lodged by the reigning Premier League champions.

Assuming City finish the current Premier League campaign in the top four, if they are not allowed to compete in the Champions League next season their place would go to the team finishing fifth.

City are still allowed to compete in this season’s Champions League, although it it yet to be seen whether the competition will actually be completed amid the coronavirus crisis.

Their most recent game in the competition was a 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their last-16 clash.
