British and Irish Lions tour: Welsh Rugby Players Agree To 25% Pay Cut

With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting rugby unions and clubs worldwide, finances have been under intense stress. While contracted players, staff, employees, and all other personnel still need to be paid out on their salaries, the lack of games for the foreseeable future also means a lack of cash flow. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Teams and unions are now in a compromised position of needing to pay said parties, but lacking the funds to adequately do so. The answer to the problem offers few easy solutions, but with everyone being affected by the circumstance, people will have to make sacrifices.

In Wales, that sacrifice is being made by all players making more than 25,000 pounds a year. Following an agreement between the Welsh Professional Rugby Board (PRB) and the Welsh Rugby Players Association (WRPA), these players will all accept a 25% reduction in their salaries for the remainder of the season, which runs another three months.

A Tough, But Necessary Decision

Amanda Blanc, chair of the PRB, explained to the BBC that this was an extremely difficult but necessary decision for all parties involved. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

“We explored a range of options, including deferment of pay, but have agreed on a reduction once all the relevant information and scenarios were considered.

“They have accepted that this is being done out of necessity because we want to be in a position to immediately resume when current circumstances subside.

“We are extremely grateful to the WRPA and its members for their exemplary attitude during our recent conversations and are delighted to see our players continue to be an inspiration to us all.

“Not to act now would be negligent, given our shared goal is for Welsh rugby to remain intact when we emerge from this period.”

Welsh Players Cooperative and Understanding

Chief executive of the WRPA, Barry Cawte, knows that this is a trying circumstance for the players, but is extremely proud of how they’ve dealt with the whole scenario.

“The WRPA exists to look after the welfare of players, but it is clear that extraordinary times call for measures such as those agreed this week.

“I can only say how proud I am of our members who from the beginning expressed a desire to do whatever was needed to help protect the game and their colleagues.”

British and Irish Lions Squad 2021: Could Itoje oust Jones as captain?

Imagine Maro Itoje captaining the 2021 British and Irish Lions against Siya Kolisi’s Springboks? What statement would you make for next year’s long-awaited series? It is unlikely to happen given that Alun Wyn Jones, the captaincy’s overwhelming favorite is still in royal form. So now that we have chosen a team, we have to choose the team.

Combining the formidable power play of South Africa is a great challenge for Warren Gatland. As much as we expect exciting rugby, it is highly unlikely to happen. The Springboks will retain most of the team that won the World Cup. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

British and Irish Lions Squad 2021: Could Itoje oust Jones as captain?
British and Irish Lions Squad 2021: Could Itoje oust Jones as captain?

There is likely to be a large contingent of English and Welsh in the 2021 British and Irish Lion Squad. South Africa defeated Wales and England, so a similar game plan would be the order of the day.

Gatland must surely attend to the size and pace of his squad. A murderously difficult itinerary won’t make it easy. Somehow, Gatland has to have his team fresh, especially forwards for test games. Charlie Inglefield chooses his squad.

Lions have a shame of riches to choose from in the last three. Liam Williams and Anthony Watson are already world-class and just as happy playing on the wing. Hogg is close to 100% and could thrive on the grounds of South Africa. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website.

Elliot Daly

Elliot Daly’s versatility at the baseline would be an asset to the Lions. As mentioned earlier, your goal kicking at altitude is crucial. South African discipline has to be perfect from anywhere on the pitch. Watson, May, and Adams have been in great shape for the past 12 months. Darcy Graham and Jacob Stockdale are also very viable options.

British and Irish Lions Squad 2021: Could Itoje oust Jones as captain?
British and Irish Lions Squad 2021: Could Itoje oust Jones as captain?

Jones

Very likely. There are not enough superlatives for Jones. He continues to play incredible rugby and has no equal as a leader. Jones can also manipulate umpires superbly. That is a great cross against Owen Farrell and the discipline of the England boss is questionable.

Jones’ downside is keeping the talents of James Ryan and Maro Itoje at bay. My hunch is that Jones will start the first round and as captain. Then we take it from there. From a marketing perspective, could Maro Itoje be the endorsement of the Lions? How appropriate would it be to see Kolisi and Itoje leading their teams?

British and Irish Lions can face all blacks by 2021

The British and Irish Lions could have a delightful warm-up test before their tour of South Africa in 2021. Warren Gatland, who will be in charge of his third British and Irish Lions tour, has been searching for the correct opponents to test his players before embarking on his tour. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Opponents that have been considered for the proposed warm-up match are the Maori All Blacks, Japan and the Barbarians. However, a more high-profile opponent in the form of the All Blacks could be heading north for that match if Gatland has his way.

Gatland revealed that he has held discussions with New Zealand Rugby Executive Director Mark Robinson. The Welsh coach believes that a match against the All Blacks could generate up to £ 5 million. The match could also be a deciding factor after their series tied in New Zealand in 2017.

Warren Gatland

Gatland told The Breakdown Show on Sky Sports NZ: I’ve talked to Mark Robinson about a warm-up game for the Lions and he was potentially talking about New Zealand Maori as a game. But is it something the All Blacks made a decision in late June before going to South Africa?

“Potentially, it is an opportunity to win four or five million pounds from a game like that and return some money to the coffers that we are going to need. Potentially, there are some opportunities for the world to come together in terms of how we get back on track and generate as much revenue as possible and don’t harm what we have.”

With the suspension of the July and August test series, do teams from the southern hemisphere go to the northern hemisphere in November and play in an all-against-all tournament?

“If it’s about revenue sharing, I think there is a chance that they could probably make around £ 20 million for each country of origin if they did something like that.”

Indifferent series of British and Irish Lions against South Africa will face the reorganized Olympics

The Lions are confident that next year’s South African tour will not be affected by the rescheduling of the Olympics, as all three tests against the Springboks will begin at night, to avoid facing events in Tokyo. Rugby enthusiasts can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Sports Mail understands that international matches, in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Soweto, on July 24, July 31 and August 7, respectively, will begin at 6 p.m. local time, 1 a.m. in Japan. That should limit any adverse impact of the Olympic Games being postponed for a year, to a space that directly spans the Lions series against the current world champions.

Sources have indicated that South African authorities are not concerned that this rugby event in their country will take place at a time when the eyes of the sports world will be on the Far East. They still anticipate that British and Irish fans will congregate in thousands, along with strong audience figures.

Within the home unions, there is a strong belief that the tour will be popular and commercially successful, despite the Olympics taking over that precious calendar window. Lions CEO Ben Calveley said: We are determined to play our part in what will be an extraordinary sports summer.

“There shouldn’t be any confrontation between Lions matches and Olympic events given the time difference between South Africa and Tokyo, so fans shouldn’t miss any action.” We look forward to a fantastic series against the world champions.

British and Irish Lions

Meanwhile, Sports Mail understands that Rugby Australia has notified the Lions hierarchy that they are “ready” to organize a tour next summer, in case the coronavirus pandemic threatens South Africa’s ability to host the eight-game event. As planned.

At this stage, there have been far more cases in Down Under than in South Africa, where officials insist there is no prospect of any disruption, amid a forced military shutdown in the country.

However, the Australian union was rumored to be struggling with debts of around £ 30 million and feared that a bleak financial picture would indicate its willingness and ability to organize a short-term 2021 backup tour if such intervention is required.

Meanwhile, England winger Jonny May is struggling to secure a club for next season after his contract negotiations were stalled by a coronavirus. The 29-year-old is yet to sign a new deal with Leicester and clubs are reluctant to carry out business amid the financial uncertainty.

British and Irish Lions duo among early big-name casualties in the vote for world’s best fullback

British and Irish Lions duo and former Saracens teammates Elliot Daly and Liam Williams are among four high-profile players who have failed to make it past the first round of the Straight 8 Fan Vote to decide the best fullback on the planet.

Gamblers from around the world have reached the polls on RugbyPass’s Facebook and Instagram accounts as part of the initiative to decide the best players in the world in each position, as voted by fans. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

The first three installments of the campaign have already passed, with England’s Maro Itoje and South African pair Pieter-Steph du Toit and Cheslin Kolbe claiming the honors in the votes for lock, flanker and wing. This week has brought with it the next edition of the series, with eight of the best fullbacks around the world pitted against each other in a knockout bracket.

However, neither Daly nor Williams have made it past the first round of voting, with players from the southern hemisphere dominating proceedings. It wasn’t an All Black, Wallaby or Springboks that Williams fell short against, though.

Instead, it was Scotland captain and Lions teammate Stuart Hogg who won 63 percent of the vote against the Welsh international. That victory puts Hogg up against former All Black and current Bristol Bears flyer Charles Piutau, who knocked Daly out of the running with 57 percent of the public’s backing.

New Zealand

On the other side of the draw, New Zealand’s excitement machine Damian McKenzie has bounced back from the knee injury that ruled him out of last year’s World Cup to thump Japan’s breakout star, Kotaro Matsushima.

The South African-born Suntory Sungoliath speedster’s exploits at the World Cup caught the eyes of many worldwide, and even earned him a contract with powerhouse French club Clermont next season. However, that wasn’t enough to sway voters, 79 percent of whom threw their support behind McKenzie.

The Chiefs playmaker’s opponent in the semi-final will be World Cup-winning Springbok Willie le Roux, who ousted Irishman Jordan Larmour with 63 percent of the vote. The second round of voting is now open, with both Hogg and McKenzie hold substantial leads over their opponents.

However, with 16 hours remaining at the time of writing, there is still plenty of time to decide who will join Itoje, du Toit and Kolbe as the best in their position.

Former Scottish captain and British lion Dougie Morgan dies at 73

Dougie Morgan, whose scoring skills almost assured the British and Irish Lions of a tied series against the All Blacks in 1977, died. He was 73 years old. The former Scotland captain and head coach died in an Edinburgh hospital on Saturday night, governing body Scottish Rugby said. His statement said that Morgan had been ill for some time.

Morgan, a scrumhalf, was capped 21 times for Scotland between 1973 and 1978. He was selected to tour New Zealand with the British & Irish Lions in 1977 but played second fiddle to the younger Brynmor Williams in the first three tests. But when Williams was injured in the third test, Morgan replaced him and then started in the fourth test, scoring all the Lions’ points with a try, conversion and penalty. It looked like it was enough to give his side a draw in the series, but a late try to No 8 Lawrie Knight gave the All Blacks a 10-9 win.

After retiring, Morgan moved into training and became Scotland’s head coach in the 1993-94 season. During his tenure, Scotland reached the quarterfinals of the Rugby World Cup in South Africa and recorded its first victory over France in Paris in 26 years.

Dougie Morgan

Sir Ian McGeechan, a friend and teammate of Morgan for many years, described him as an enormously competitive and talented athlete, reported thecourier.co.uk.

Dougie had a deep understanding of the game and was strategically very aware. I’ll never forget him standing on Gareth Edwards’ foot to distract him as he tries to put the ball in the scrum, an approach that stopped Wales and we finally won the game. He was also a natural goal kicker.

“His support was never better than with Jim Telfer, Derek Grant and I had a group of coaches who shared ideas, particularly in preparation for the Rugby World Cup in 1991. On and off the field he was a great friend and teammate. I have fond memories. That I will always appreciate and be very grateful for meeting Dougie.”

Austria was drawn in Group C alongside Netherland, Ukraine, and play of Winner D or A. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Austria Euro Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

Moritz Bauer joined Celtic for a season loan contract with Stoke City to use his time in Scotland to force his return to the Austrian national team towards Euro 2021 this summer.

Now, although the Austrian international right-back from Switzerland has admitted that it was a young Dutchman – Jeremie Frimpong – who probably put his international recall ambitions to good use, for the moment at least.

Bauer played over the weekend in Celtic’s Scottish Cup 3-0 victory over Clyde, but for most of this season he had to play from the second violin to first Elhamed – before his injury in Rome during the 2-1 victory against Lazio did not exclude him for several months.

He just returned to training this week – and Frimpong, who also came out injured after Alan Power sank a Kilmarnock a few weeks ago. He too is scheduled to return to the training ground this week, likely tomorrow.

Bauer has managed only six starts, coupled with numerous appearances on the bench, and he believes that this is far from enough for him to achieve his international ambitions.

He was not helped either by Celtic manager Neil Lennon straying from 4-2-3-1 formation which has been a mainstay for many successful seasons at Celtic, to return to the former 3-5-2 of Martin. The O’Neill era, a system that Lennon himself played with great success.

This means that the wingers and the more defensive Bauer seem to play more comfortably as a right back in a rear four.

“It is clear to me that I do not have the best hand to enter the Austrian team for the final of Euro 2021 and that time is not on my side.”

Bauer, however, loves every minute of his time at Celtic, and he still has a few months to convince Lennon that he is worthy of a permanent deal with the Hoops – Celtic has a purchase option already agreed with Stoke City for 28 years.

And Bauer certainly speaks as if he plans to stay – if possible – longer than the end of this season. His eyes are fixed on Ten-in-a-Row.

Bauer looks like a pretty decent player, although he probably needs to recognize that Celtic is an attacking side and that he should sometimes think of being cautious in the wind and being more direct and forward -keeper in his game forward.

He started doing it in the Clyde game and it is probably the best we have seen of him so far, even in these very difficult conditions.

Tonight you expect him to be back on the bench, and tomorrow Jeremie Frimpong will be back and will be pushing to get back on the team. His problem will be James Forrest who currently plays the role of the right-wing in 3-5-2.

France brought back Adil Rami for Euro 2021 squad

Euro 2021 is set to take place in 12 cities in 12 UEFA countries from 12 June to 12 July 2021. Didier Deschamps, however, had to make a small change in his team with Thomas Lemar replacing Anthony Martial after the Manchester United winger was excluded with an injury.

The French team has seen the tastes of Sebastian Haller, Alexandre Lacazette,  and Aymeric Laporte snub. France collected mostly of players who have won the World Cup, the team will look to pass its qualifying matches without any hassle.

Lucas Digne should continue his race as a left-back starting with Deschamps opting for the Everton player instead of Lucas Hernandez.

Despite the poor form with the club, Raphael Varane should associate Samuel Umtiti, who has also had a bad season so far with an injury limiting his playing time, at the soul of the defense with Benjamin Pavard occupying the right back.

Didier Deschamps opted for the same midfielder that earned him the World Cup with the French manager tinkering with his players only when they face inferior opponents or when part of his first-team came out injured. N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba’s impressive combination is sure to start against Iceland with Ndombele likely to nod in their opening match against Moldova.

Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Greizmann, and Blaise Matuidi are once again likely to be the first XI of Deschamps with Thauvin, Coman or Fekir likely to wink during one of their matches.

France Squad:

Goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola, Steve Mandanda, Hugo Lloris

Defenders: Kurt Zouma, Presnel Kimpembe, Djibril Sidibe, Lucas Digne, Samuel Umtiti, Raphael Varane, Layvin Kurzawa, Benjamin Pavard

Italy strengths, weaknesses, and predictions for Euro 2021

Having failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, Italy achieved remarkable recovery by qualifying for Euro 2021 in style, winning 10 of its 10 qualifying rounds and scoring 37 goals as it comfortably overtook his group.

Finalist defeated in 2012, Italy was drawn with Turkey, Wales and Switzerland in group A. Here, 90 minutes assess their main strengths and weaknesses and predict how far they will go to the World Championships. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Italy vs Switzerland Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

The Azzurri’s preparation for this summer’s tournament has been relatively fluid, and Roberto Mancini’s team have been undefeated in their last 14 games since their defeat against Portugal in the Nations League in September 2018.

Italy strengths, weaknesses, and predictions for Euro 2021

Strengths

It’s one of the youngest and most exciting Italian teams in years. While in previous tournaments, the old guard had exceeded their reception, it is an Italian team characterized by the fearlessness of youth.

20-year-old Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could start between the sticks for Azzurri, 22-year-old midfielder Nicolo Barella has been a revelation for Inter this season, and intelligence and composure from 19-year-old Sandro Tonali make him a huge competent study – and maybe more – for Jorginho.

These youngsters are a refreshing change from the experienced heads who have largely disappointed in the international scene since their triumph at the 2006 World Cup.

After averaging 3.7 goals per game in qualifying – although a modest 9-1 counterattack by Armenia – the Italians also have plenty of firepowers. Forward Ciro Immobile has been the top scorer in Serie A from a distance this season, recording score statistics for Messi and Ronaldo, with 23 goals in just 20 appearances.

However, despite his competence in front of the goal, Immobile was not a regular starter for his country, the captain of Turin Andrea Belotti being often favored at the front, demonstrating how the embarrassment of the choice is for Roberto Mancini with offensive options.

Italy is a nation previously stereotyped for being defensive and boring. Mancini maintained defensive solidity, conceding only four times in qualifying, but did so while adding an attacking touch.

Weaknesses

The natural disadvantage of a team brimming with youth is lack of experience. This has been the transition within the Italian national team since the country’s last appearance in an international tournament during Euro 2016, that almost two-thirds of the team that reached the quarter-finals in France are no longer international.

This leaves many players headed for Euro 2021 for their first international tournament. Could the big stage take over some of the young Italian talents?

Despite its exciting side and numerous offensive options, Italy used to be useless in front of the goal during qualifying. Despite having dominated possession and 25 breathtaking shots in their decisive game against Finland, Roberto Mancini’s team needed a penalty from Jorginho to seal the three points.

Similarly against Armenia at 10, the Italians held 74% of the ball and 17 shots. However, only six of those shots were on target, and it was an 80th-minute goal that finally assured them of the victory.

There were signs that the tides were changing in Italy’s most recent qualifiers against Armenia – a 9-1 volley – and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Azzurri found the net from three of their seven penalty kicks.

However, facing the best teams in Europe at Euro 2021, it is unlikely that Italy will be offered as many opportunities to reach the goal, and will have to take advantage of it when it does.

Predictions

Italy should progress compared to its group and will be the favorite of the group winners. However, Wales is a team that is constantly improving and can cause all kinds of problems when Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey are in good shape, and Switzerland is a very good team in its time, which will also be seen as dark horses for getting to the bottom of the tournament.

Despite three difficult group matches, Italy should advance unscathed to the round of 16. Roberto Mancini’s team will be considered a dark horse for the tournament, but this slight status of an outsider could play in their favor, and the Italians are a good bet for the semi-finals.

British and Irish lions allay fears about 2021 tour clash with Tokyo Olympics

The British and Irish Lions have played down concerns over next year’s tour of South Africa clashing with the rescheduled Olympic Games, with evening kick-offs for the three-Test series against the Springboks ensuring no crossover with major events in Tokyo. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Tour organizers have also allayed fears revenue will be hit given broadcast contracts including the bumper deal with Sky Sports are all but finalized.

The International Olympic Committee confirmed on Monday that the Tokyo Games will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021. It is understood that the IOC consulted with World Rugby, but still chose to reorganize the Olympic Games to directly overlap with Lions test matches against world champions. , which are scheduled for July 24, July 31, and August 7.

The Olympics reserves a number of its main events for weekends, as was the case for Super Saturday at London 2012 but it is understood the three Tests are due to kick off at 6 pm local time – 5 pm in the UK and, crucially, 1 am in Tokyo.

“The priority right now has to be the safety and well-being of everyone affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ben Calveley, managing director of the Lions.

“We are determined to play our part in what will be an extraordinary sports summer. There should be no head to head with Lions matches and Olympic events gave the time difference between South Africa and Tokyo, so fans shouldn’t miss any action. We look forward to a fantastic series against the world champions.”

South Africa

Last week a leading rugby administrator in South Africa claimed. The Lions could save the game in the country given the 2017 tour ensured a profit of around £20m for New Zealand Rugby and contributed more than £100m to the country’s GDP.

While the host nation makes considerably more than its tourists, the Lions rely heavily on sponsorship income. Commercial revenues may take a hit matching the £6m plus Standard Life paid to be the lead partner in 2017 is likely to prove difficult but there is confidence the drop-off will not be made worse by the clash with the Tokyo Games.

On sale dates for tickets and official travel packages have been postponed. They were due to go on sale in South Africa next month and in the UK in July but both dates have been pushed back.

“As I’m sure our supporters will understand, both unions did not think it was appropriate to make tickets and our 2021 tour packages available for purchase at this time,” Calverley said. “We hope to be able to announce new sales dates in the near future but until then we would like to wish everyone the best of health in these unprecedented times.”
